Lasers are focused beams of light that come in one color. Flashlights give off white light, which is not actually one color, but all of the colors. When all of the colors of light are mixed together, the result is actually pure white light. So when white light is refracted, one of the most striking science demonstrations takes place.
The refraction of white light gives all of the colors of the visible spectrum: Red, Orange, Yellow (ROY), Green (G), Blue, Indigo, and Violet (Biv). If you remember the name Roy G. Biv, you’ll always remember the colors of the rainbow in order.
